The term “trademark” refers to any phrase, sign, or symbol that is associated with a company in such a way that it allows customers to distinguish their products in a commercial setting. A service mark is a phrase, sign, symbol, or other graphic that is used to link businesses in a commercial setting to the services they provide.

“Trademark” and “mark” are oftentimes used interchangeably when referring to any kind of mark, including service mark.
